The mayor of San Jose has restlessly promoted the repopulation of the areas surrounding La Sabana Park in the downtown sector.  So far, a total of five towers are being built and seven more are undergoing paperwork before beginning the construction.

La Sabana is also called “San Jose’s Lungs” due to its large amount of trees.  The area is considered a strategic point due to its proximity to the two busiest airports in San Jose which are the Pavas Airport for domestic flights and the Juan Santamaria International Airport.

Access to La Sabana is also extremely easy due to the large amount of bus lines that pass through the area.  The idea of surrounding the park with residential and commercial buildings is to attract high end investors and consumers to turn it into a true metropolis.

Aside from the great potential the Sabana project has, is the existence of other incentives such as the deduction of a 0.1% construction tax which can add up to quite a significant chunk of money.

Johnny Araya, San Jose’s Mayor, is very optimistic and happy with the response from different sectors.  The Mayor foresees that within three years, La Sabana will be surrounded by at least 30 residential and commercial towers.

La Sabana is the first sector in downtown San Jose which has begun the construction of towers with the intention of attracting residents as well as businesses.  The buildings have an average of 12 stories and will compete with similar constructions that have successfully developed in the Escazu and Santa Ana areas.
